ATHLETICS Homegirl Kwamboka shows SandraFelis and Miriam who is boss at Kisii Athletics Kenya Meet

The women’s 100m had five heats and saw sub-12 performances from budding athletes.

Gladys Kwamboka of the National Police Service on Friday, April 14 obliterated a strong field to win the women’s 10,000m race in 33:59.50 at the fifth Athletics Weekend meet held at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii.

The 2015 world youth championships 2000m steeple chase silver medallist Sandrafelis Chebet settled for second place in 34:00.3 as Mirriam Chebet crossed the finish line third in 34:09.6.

The 10,000m women’s race is the only final concluded. Other events that have already taken place include the 400m Hurdles women’s race which had two heats for the semifinal. Hannah Mwangi of Kenya Defense Forces ran the fastest time of 60.80 in the category.

Gladys Ngure of National Police followed closely to finish second in 61.8 as the duo of Jane Wangari (KDF) and Diana Chebet clocked 62.2.

The men’s category had three heats in the semifinal with Nicholas Chirchir of KDF posting the fastest time of 52.20 after winning the second heat. His compatriot, Kessio Kiplimo, won the third heat in 52.30 as Edward Wagaki ran away with the top honours in the first heat by posting 52.90.

The women’s 100m had five heats and saw sub-12 performances from Maximilla Imali of Western (11.80), Rukia Nusra of KDF (11.60), Doreen Waka of Central (11.90) and Monica Safania of National Police (11.80) among other athletes.

The men’s category had 11 heats and saw the athletes display impressive performances with Steve Onyango of KDF run the fastest time of 10.10. He was closely followed by Robinson Motende of KDF who clocked 10.20.
