Sha'Carri Richardson reflected on her doping mistake and apologised for letting others down.

Sha’Carri Richardson has found herself in the middle of a lot of chaos but one thing about the American sprint queen is that she always takes her time to process things before speaking.

Back then, Richardson admitted that she was not in touch with her emotions since the emotional outbursts but that has since changed and she is aware of what to say, when and where.

She found herself on the wrong side of the Athletics Integrity Unit after failing a drug test. The reigning world 100m champion qualified for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but days later, she tested positive for cannabis use.

In an interview at that time, she admitted to having let down a lot of people and apologized for not showing up as it was expected.

Richardson expressed disappointment in herself and pointed out that one lesson learnt is that she should always be ready to deal with the consequences of every decision she makes.

“I would like to say to my fans, to my family, my sponsorship and to the haters too, I apologise as much as I’m disappointed. I know that when I stand on the track I don’t represent myself, represent a great community that has shown me great support and I failed all of them, I apologise,” she said in an interview with Today.

“I didn’t even know how to control my emotions and like I said, I’m human, we’re human and I want to be as transparent as much as possible. If you choose to do things, you should be ready for the consequences.”

The Olympic 100m silver medallist added that over time, she learnt how to deal with the setback and promised to be back bigger and better, which she did.

Sha’Carri Richardson noted that people would always have something to say and it did not disappoint her whatsoever since she was bound to make mistakes in her journey to the top as a young sprinter.

“I’m just finding different ways to cope and do things that will make me feel better because I’m human and I know people are always going to talk and judge. I want to apologise if I let you guys down,” she revealed.

In her comeback journey, Sha’Carri Richardson has displayed a more mature version of herself and has learnt to stand by what she says.

She delivered a gold medal for the US in the women’s 100m at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary before anchoring the women’s 4x100m relay team to gold.

Richardson also meant business at the Olympic Games, winning silver in the women’s 100m behind Julien Alfred before anchoring the women’s 4x100m relay to a gold medal.
