Sifan Hassan could be the first woman ever to run four marathons in one year if her ambition to do are realized in 2025.

Paris Olympics marathon champion Sifan Hassan has said she is contemplating doing four marathons in one year heading into the 2025 season.

While it is impossible to run more than two marathons in one year, doing four is a possibility for the 31-year-old Tokyo Olympics 5000m and 10000m champion who remains bullish on the idea.

"One time, I want to do four marathons in a year – from February to February. I want to see if it is possible. I really like it because I don’t know for sure if it is going to happen. I like the excitement," she told World Athletics.

It is advised that one takes a minimum three-month rest after running a full marathon (42km) before tackling the next one. Actually, to maintain longevity, it is recommended that one runs just two marathons in any given calendar year, making Hassan's ambitions a pipedream.

The 31-year-old won the women’s out of stadium category before being named as women’s 2024 World Athlete of the Year. The Dutch star earned the final athletics gold of the Paris Olympics in grueling conditions on a course reckoned to be one of the most challenging ever seen at the Games.

Her marathon victory was confirmed in dramatic fashion as she clashed with Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa on the run-in before moving away over the final 100m to finish three seconds clear – the narrowest margin in any women’s Olympic marathon.

"This year, my curiosity pushed me to take a risk and compete in three distances at the Paris Olympics. It was terrifying, and that made each finish line more meaningful," the two-time world champion said.

Sifan managed bronze in both 5000m and 10000m at the Paris Games. She is only the second of three women to complete an Olympic distance double and the only woman to win the Olympic gold medal in the 5000m, 10000m and marathon races.
