In-form Daniel Simiu is breathing fire ahead of making his debut at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country Championships on Saturday.

World Half Marathon silver medallist Daniel Simiu has exuded confidence ahead of his debut at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country Championships to be held at the Lobo Village in Eldoret on Saturday, February 3.

Simiu will face a stern test from his compatriots including former World 10,000m silver medallist Stanley Waithaka who will be coming back from an injury setback and youngster Ishmael Kipkurui, the World Under-20 Cross-country Champion.

However, he is not afraid of the big names since he believes everyone has an equal chance of winning if they put in the work.

“I love competing…I’m not scared of anything because at the end of the day, there will be a winner and a loser. May the best win and to me, I promised myself that I will try my best,” Simiu said during a pre-race press conference.

The World 10,000m silver medallist opened his season with a win at the 67° Campaccio-International Cross Country before dominating the National Police Cross-country Championships.

He emphasised on the importance of competing in cross-country races before going to the track since he strongly believes it’s a good way to start his season.

“I chose to run here because this year we have the Olympics and I’m just building up for that and I believe that if you prepare well and start with cross-country, you will have an easy run on the track.

“It will definitely not be easy for someone who is just waiting for the track season to start and I think I’m excited and more than ready to compete here,” he said.
