Cheruiyot has expressed optimism in coming back with the title that he lost to Englishman Jake Wightman.

The 2019 World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot is now injury-free and ready to lock horns with the crème de la crème when he heads to the World Championships scheduled for August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.

Cheruiyot has expressed optimism in clinching the title that he lost to Englishman Jake Wightman. Wightman will not be defending his title this year but that does not mean that Cheruiyot will have it easy since there are very strong upcoming athletes in the men’s 1500m.

During last year’s edition, Cheruiyot finished sixth and will be locking horns once again with some athletes who gave him a run for his money in 2022.

Record-breaker Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Mohammed Katir are some of the top athletes who will be up against Cheruiyot but he remains focused on his title reclamation.

“I am happy because last year I was having an injury and didn’t perform very well and my focus now is working hard and I hope that when I go to Budapest, I will return back my title.

"I think I’m in the right shape and I’m coming back stronger and I hope I will achieve my target in Budapest,” Cheruiyot said.

The 27-year-old also believes that with teamwork, everything is possible and he will be hoping to work with reigning World Under-20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot and Abel Kipsang.

“They are good athletes and if we work together in Budapest, we shall all get something good,” he added.

Cheruiyot began his season at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar where he was competing in the 3000m and finished fifth.

He then proceeded to the Kip Keino Classic where he finished third in the 800m before winning the 1500m at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix.

He then competed in the 1500m at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo where he finished fourth before finishing third in the 800m at the National Championships.

Cheruiyot then reigned supreme at the World Championships National Trials. His last race before the World Championships was at the Diamond League Meeting in London where he finished eighth.
