Just at 20, Chepchirchir is already making a name for herself and slowly following in the footsteps of newly crowned world 1500m record holder Faith Kipyegon.

Demadonna Athletic Promotions has praised Nelly Chepchirchir’s exploits which saw her display admirable performances over the 1500m races at the just-concluded Montreuil International Meeting in France and FBK Games in Hengelo, the Netherlands.

Just at 20, Chepchirchir is already making a name for herself and slowly following in the footsteps of newly crowned world 1500m record holder Faith Kipyegon. Chepchirchir easily cruised to victory at the Montreuil International Meeting to upset home favourites.

At the FBK Games on Sunday, June 4, she stunned other 1500m greats to finish second behind unstoppable Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan.

The 20-year-old clocked 3:58.96, her first-ever performance below four minutes. Before her superb show in the 1500m races, she had competed over the 800m at the Grifone Meeting in Grosseto, Italy, and won in a world lead of 1:58.23.

In a post on the Demadonna Athletic Promotions Facebook page, read: “Our rising star Nelly Chepchirchir surprises us every time more and more.

"In Grosseto, she won 800m in 1.58.23, a world lead, and in Hengelo, she was second in 1500m with an incredible 3.58.96, a Personal Best. Congratulations Nelly. The future will be bright for you.”

The Janeth Jepkosgei-coached athlete also competed in the 1500m at the Kip Keino Classic held at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani on Saturday, May 13, where she finished an impressive fourth in 4:04.56.

She made her debut on the national team during 2020's World Under-20 championships in Cali, Colombia where she finished fourth in the 800m. The youngster is definitely one to watch as the track and field season takes shape.
