Christian Coleman is confident about the future despite the major changes he has undergone in the past few months, which involved changing his long-term coach Tim Hall.

For the first time since making the bold move of leaving his long-term coach Tim Hall, Christian Coleman finally opened up on what led to the decision, his current state after not making the US individual team to the Olympics, and his expectations for the future.

At the Rome Diamond League, the American speedster succumbed to the speed supremacy of the in-form Letsile Tebogo, who ran him down despite having his perfect trademark 60m start. The Motswana blazed to the win in 9.87s as he settled for second in 9.92s, while his fellow American Fred Kerley came third in 9.95s.

It was Coleman's first 100m race since the US Olympic trials disappointment of narrowly missing out on the individual spots to compete in Paris after fourth place finishes in the 100m and 200m.

"I felt a little rusty just that I haven't ran the 100 since trials and changing a lot of things in my personal life, my training, everything. So I feel good getting back out there and I know that in two weeks at the final, I'll be even better," said Coleman in an interview with Citius Mag.

Despite clocking 9.92s after some weeks out and only losing to the Olympic 200m champion, Coleman stated it's not a motivation but rather, shows his readiness to defend his Diamond League trophy in the final.

"I won't say motivation, I feel ready. I know I've done everything on my part, give myself the best shot, put myself in the best position despite the circumstances and everything."

When asked about his coaching transitions and move from his long-term coach Tim Hall, who played a pivotal role in shaping his successful career to reach the pinnacle as one of the fastest men in history, Coleman revealed the Olympic trials was the dealbreaker in his decision.

"I feel like I've been with the same coach since I was in college, he's a great coach, great guy, I just feel like when you get to this level, you need all the attention, fine details every day and him being the head coach (University of Tennessee), you know what I'm saying, I think it was just mutually time for the both of us.

"Like I was doing my best to put myself in the best possible situation and I think that race at trials just kind of magnified everything I'd been feeling...I’ve just got to be mentally, spiritually, and physically aligned to be at my best and I just felt like making that change would give me the best shot at doing that…

"I feel good with where I’m at right now, just putting one foot in front of the other — and I’ll be even better at the final,” he said.

Coleman now trains with coach Dennis Mitchell at Star Athletics Track Club in Florida, where there are highly talented sprinters that include: Sha'Carri Richardson, Kenny Bednarek, Twanisha Terry and Melissa Jefferson, Canadian speedster Aaron Brown, etc.
