Two-time world and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon is now the 1500m world record holder, the only title that was missing on her trophy-laden cabinet.
Kipyegon obliterated a strong field on Friday night to cruise to victory at the Golden Gala, a Diamond League Meeting in Florence in Florence, Italy.
She clocked 3:49.11 to cut the tape ahead of Great Britain’s Laura Muir to shatter Genzebe Dibaba's longstanding record of 3:50.07.

She opened her track season at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar where she won in 3:58.57, a world lead.
Kipyegon has been chasing the record for quite some time now and it comes as a huge relief as she has finally gotten a hold of it. She attempted to break the record during last year’s Diamond League Meeting in Monaco but unfortunately missed it by an agonising three tenths of a second.
The 29-year-old opened her season with a dominant win at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar where she clocked 3:58.57 to cross the finish line.
