Noah Lyles has adamantly claimed to be the fastest man in the world despite Kishane Thompson's world lead of 9.77.

Bullish Noah Lyles has claimed to be the fastest man in the world, despite Kishane Thompson’s world leading time at the Jamaican Olympic trials.

Lyles, speaking at the Olympic news conference on Monday weighed in on the controversial ‘fastest man in the world’ topic, claiming that the title is his and winning the Olympic title will cement his place.

The American sprint king noted that the title goes to the Olympic champion and world champion and he won the World Championships 100m title in Budapest. He exuded confidence about winning the Olympic title.

"It's me. It's always going to be me. Everybody knows that the title goes to the Olympic champion and the world champion, which I am one of. And soon to be another one of,” Lyles said as quoted by ESPN.

The debate has caused an uproar between Jamaican and American track and field enthusiasts and forced Lyles to address the claims on his Youtube channel.

"I would like to address the comments surrounding the 'fastest man' title. The titles 'fastest man' and 'fastest woman' are awarded annually to the winners of the 100m at the World Championships. I won the men's 100m at the 2023 World Championships, and Sha'Carri [Richardson] won the women's,” Lyles said in part.

However, during the conference, Lyles clarified that the statement was not supposed to be shared. He disclosed that he is yet to have conversations with him and insisted that he does not fancy responding to such backlash.

"I haven't been conversing with him much but unfortunately he did release a message which talked about the 'fastest man' comment. And although I agree with what he said, I usually do not tend to respond to people about that,” he said.
