She encouraged athletes to use their God-given talents and practice patience instead of taking shortcuts.

Just four days after 20 athletes were provisionally suspended for doping, former world 800m champion Janeth Jepkosgei has come out to warn young athletes against using performance-enhancing drugs.

Jepkosgei, popularly known as Eldoret Express, emphasized that athletes who will violate the world anti-doping rules will have nowhere to hide and will have to pay for their mistakes.

She encouraged the athletes to use their God-given talents and practice patience instead of using shortcuts.

“Athletes should shun away from using drugs to enhance their performance…run with your natural talent, with what God has given you. When you run clean, you shall be rewarded…your time to shine will just come.

"Engaging in these heinous acts will just lead you to a dead end. There’s nowhere you will run to because the rules are now strict. You will be jailed,” she warned.

Jepkosgei is currently managing young athletes at the Kapchemoiywo Camp¬ in Kapsabet and has mentored young athletes including former world under 20 champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and trailblazing youngster Nelly Jepchirchir.

Meanwhile, the doping menace has painted a bad picture on Kenya and the country is now ranked in Category A, having the highest doping risk.
