Former world javelin champion Julius Yego has lauded multiple world champion Vivian Cheruiyot for being an inspiration to young athletes.

In a post on his Facebook page, Yego shared a video where Cheruiyot was speaking to Commonwealth Games champion Beatrice Chebet and he revealed that he was impressed by the words of advice being passed down to Chebet.

Cheruiyot, popularly known as Pocket Rocket, was the queen of the 5000m and 10,000m races and she is the 2016 Olympic 5000m champion.

She is also the 2012 Olympic 5000m silver medallist and 10,000m bronze medallist. The mother of two is also a two-time world 5000m and 10,000m champion.

“Good to see Cheruiyot giving advice to Chebet over the distance and how to launch the killer kick in major champs and the senior was well known for during her time in the 5000m. Passover complete,” Yego's post read.

He added that he was happy to see Chebet excited to meet her mentor and noted that the 23-year-old had been looking forward to a moment when she would meet Cheruiyot.

The two met at the just concluded National Police Service Athletics Championships that were staged at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.

“Two superstars, same event different ages=speed stars share a light moment during the NPS athletics championships.

It was joy and laughter seeing them smile and chat. The little junior (Chebet) was all smiling and happy having met her idol and fellow speed star of the 5000m and even suggesting the long search and look for her senior handshake perhaps for a pass over the baton to her,” he added.

Cheruiyot finished ninth in the 10,000m, an impressive performance since she last raced on the track about six years ago.
