Yego made a name for himself when he became the first Kenyan to win a World Championships gold medal at a field event.

The 2015 World javelin champion Julius Yego is not leaving anything to chance as he prepares to make a comeback and stamp authority in the field he once reigned supreme.

Popularly known as Mr. YouTube, Yego made a name for himself when he became the first Kenyan to win a World Championships gold medal at a field event. He then bagged silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

After his exploits, he encountered a niggly groin injury which derailed him but he has promised to slowly make a return.

Last year was a mixed season for him where he failed to make it to the final at the World Championships in Oregon. However, he bagged a silver medal at the Kip Keino Classic and won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

In a post on his Facebook page, he uploaded a video in training and captioned it: “Always trying to get back the lost rhythm and speed, onwards and upward and trying again. Little by little and it’s going to be coming soon. Good to have the feeling now.”

This year, Yego has not been off to a good start but maybe things will shape up as the track and field season intensifies. He opened his season at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar and he failed to reach the final.

He then competed at the Kip Keino Classic held at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani but unfortunately failed to live up to the expectations.

He could only manage a fifth-place finish after throwing 77.24. Belgium’s Timothy Herman took the top honours after throwing a meeting record of 87.35.
