ATHLETICS Juniors shine with impressive performances at the Commonwealth Youth Games

The team began their campaign today, August 8, with the men's and women's 1500m taking center stage.

The Kenyan athletics team began their campaign on a high at the ongoing Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

Janet Chepkoech started off the campaign on a good start completely dominating heat one of the women's 1500m and her teammate Nancy Cherop followed with a win in a similar fashion in the second heat.

In the men's category, Josephat Sang and Andrew Kiptoo easily cruised to the finish line to win their heats respectively to book slots in the finals.

Cyclists Daniel Kiptala and Billy Graham in their road race put in a spirited fight which saw them finish 14th and 15th.

In Tobago, the junior Lionesses registered a second win when they ran a rampage on hosts Trinidad and Tobago 48-0. In the second match of the day, our young lionesses fell to Australia 45-0.

In Para athletics the T35 women's 100m had Faith Kavithi finishing fourth in the semis to book a slot in the finals, later on in the evening, she was however unable to finish her race after she tripped and fell.

In the T38 men's 100m semis, Randy Odhiambo managed to make it to the finals which he ran later and finished seventh.

In Swimming Sara Mose got to swim a personal best in the women's 50m backstroke and 50m free while Aker Mutinda swam a personal best in the men's 50m fly as well as the 100m free
