National Champion Zablon Ekwam has promised his fans to keep an eye on him as he looks to impress at the Olympic Games later this year in Paris, France.

National 400m champion Zablon Ekwam is confident ahead of making his long-awaited debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games scheduled for later this year.

Despite his fourth-place finish at the Kip Keino Classic, Ekwam managed to clock the Olympic qualifying time, stopping the clock at 44.69 to cross the finish line.

From his reaction after crossing the finish line, it was evident that the Kenyan was astonished at his capabilities and could not believe that after years of toiling, he had finally qualified for the Olympics, the most prestigious bonanza any athlete dreams of.

In a post-race interview at the Nyayo National Stadium, Ekwam was short of words, explaining his elation and promising to work extra hard and impress at the Olympics.

“I’m very happy…it is something motivating since the Olympic Games are very important and every athlete always wants to compete there and being one of them is history.

“My name has now changed from Zablon Ekwam to Zablon Ekwam Oly, meaning I’m going to be an Olympian. I’m very thankful to everyone who has supported me,” Ekwam said.

He also promised his fans a great show and urged them to keep track of his performances as he gears up for the debut.

“Just watch me at the Olympics and I know everything is going to be fine. I promise all of you a good show,” the 400m-bound athlete said.

Meanwhile, the Kenyan has been on fire this season, producing very astonishing performances starting from the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, where Team Kenya set an African record of 3:06.71 in the 4x400m men’s relay.

He also competed in the second and third Athletics Kenya weekend meets and later proceeded to win the 400m and 4x400m mixed relay races at the World Athletics Relays trials.

Focus now shifts to the World Athletics Relays at the Bahamas where Team Kenya hopes to impress and win medals as they seek Olympic qualification.
