Athletics enthusiast Robert Ruto has given reasons why he thinks world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum is similar to the legendary athlete, Daniel Komen.
Kelvin Kiptum brought the marathon world to a standstill after breaking Eliud Kipchoge’s world record at the Chicago Marathon last month.
The 23-year-old clocked 2:00:35 to shatter Kipchoge’s world record time of 2:01:09 that he set during the Berlin Marathon in 2022. Since then, comparisons have been drawn on who Kiptum is most likely to be like and one name has stood out, David Komen.

Ferdinand Omanyala has cleared the air on whether the 400m clash between him and Faith Kipyegon will eventually happen.
Robert Ruto, an athletics enthusiast, told Nation Sports that watching Kiptum compete in all his three marathons reminds him of Komen, who is now retired.
“Kiptum breaking the world record never came as a surprise to me because his progression has been amazing," said Ruto.
"He runs what we call negative splits right from his debut at the Valencia Marathon last year and even at the London Marathon. I would term him as a precautious talent since he is probably not aware of the magnitude he is just about to do.

ATHLETICS Brigid Kosgei expresses interest in making Kenya's marathon team to Olympics
Former world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei has shared her interest in being selected in the marathon team for the Olympic Games.
He then proceeded to London in April this year where he won the race in 2:01:25, the second-fastest time over the distance, before breaking the world record at the Chicago Marathon.
Komen was also a man to beat during his prime. He only lost two races in all the international competitions where he featured in.
The 47-year-old finished second in the two races he lost, his first loss being at the 1994 World Cross-country Championships and later the 1998 World Cross-country Championships.
