Mutile Yavi denies Kenya steeplechase gold as Beatrice Chepkoech and Faith Cherotich complete podium in Budapest
All hopes were resting on the Kenyan trio of Beatrice Chepkoech, Faith Cherotich, and Jackline Chepkoech.
During last year’s edition in Eugene, Oregon, Kenya finished behind Ethiopia in the African nations but managed to pull up their socks in this year’s edition.
Ethiopia could only manage a sixth-place finish, behind Kenya. This is a drop in their performance since they finished second during last year’s edition after bagging 10 medals. This year’s edition saw them bag nine medals.
Meanwhile, Kenya also bagged 10 medals, three gold, three silver, and four bronze medals. The gold medals were won courtesy of Faith Kipyegon who bagged the 1500m and 5000m world titles and Mary Moraa who bagged the 800m title.
The silver medals were won by trailblazing youngster Emmanuel Wanyonyi, world 3000m Steeplechase record holder, and Daniel Simiu.
The bronze medals were won by Abraham Kibiwott in the steeplechase, Beatrice Chebet in the 5000m, Faith Cherotich in the steeplechase, and Jacob Krop in the 5000m.

Vihiga Queens were defeated in extra time by Ethiopia's CBE FC in the CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA regional qualifiers semifinals.
