The 22-year-old, inspired by Jakob Ingebrigtsen, is making a determined comeback as he eyes a spot in Kenya's 2025 World Championship team.

Kamar Etiang has battled numerous injuries in the past two seasons, and as he looks to make a resounding comeback, Jakob Ingebrigtsen remains a huge motivation.

Kamar Etiang noted that just like Jakob Ingebrigtsen, he will be looking to incorporate the 5000m in his training as eyes a slot in the Kenyan team at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

The youngster has since graduated to the senior category and hopes to have a smooth run just like he had in the under-20 races before the injury woes.

“I had a slight injury that’s why I’ve not been competing frequently but now I’m back in the game and I hope to maintain my fitness until next season. I will be doubling in the 5000m and 1500m. When I compete in the 5000m, I will be building up for the 1500m, that’s the criterion used by Jakob Ingebrigtsen and I want to follow in his steps,” Kamar Etiang said.

“I’ve had the injury for two years when I was in the under-20 up until now but things look okay at the moment and I’m glad to be back. I had a problem with my hip and hamstring.”

The Kenyan distance sensation was fresh from running the men’s 2km race at the third Athletics Kenya cross-country meet in Iten where he finished second behind Emmanuel Wanyonyi.

Speaking about his comeback journey, Kamar Etiang pointed out that his body feels great and he is ready for what is to come. He started his cross-country campaign in Kapsokwony with a sixth-place finish before improving to second.

“I feel like the race was good, this was my second time running because I was competing in Kapsokwony and I was sixth and here I have proven to be okay and can do something. Maybe the season will be good because I’ve started on a high note. I tried pushing my limits and I was fighting,” he added.
