Kibitok will be Kenya’s sole representative in the event that has attracted some of the best Ethiopian long-distance runners.

All eyes will be on 2018 Stramilano Half Marathon champion Felix Kibitok on Sunday, May 28 as he lines up against a strong field for the Tartan Ottawa International Marathon.

Kibitok will be Kenya’s sole representative in the event that has attracted some of the best Ethiopian long-distance runners. He has a Personal Best time of 2:06:28 that he clocked after finishing fifth at the Barcelona Marathon last year.

He has so far competed in two marathons and will be looking for a podium finish since he is yet to accomplish that. He made his debut at the Ljubljana Marathon and faded to finish 11th. He will open his season in the streets of Ottawa.

Kibitok will be up against the Ethiopian quartet of Gadisa Shumie, Yihunilign Adane, Gebretsadik Abraha, and Aychew Bantie who top the fastest athletes in the field.

Shumie, 30, goes into the race with confidence after winning the Zurich Marathon in February. He has a PB time of 2:04:59 and he is the fastest in the field. He will be looking for his second win this season when he lines up for the race.

Meanwhile, Adane will also be opening his season at the event after a successful outing last year that saw him win the Zurich Marathon and Toronto Waterfront Marathon.

Abraha and Bantie will also pose threats to the Kenyan as they have posted pretty good times in the past and will be hoping to maintain the hot streak. Abraha finished fourth at this year’s Dubai Marathon and will be hoping to go one step better.

Bantie, on his part, opened his season at the Tata Mumbai Marathon where he finished sixth and will also be fighting to climb up the ladder.

Kibitok will surely have a tough time fighting for a podium finish against the Ethiopians but he is also a force to reckon with in his own capacity.
