The three-time world 1,500m champion easily cruised to the 5,000m final where Kenya will have all her four representatives
Three-time world 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon kept alive her hopes of winning two gold medals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships after sailing through to the 5,000m final.
Kipyegon, the world record holder over the distance, went toe-to-toe with Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan in Heat Two before the London Marathon champion edged the race at the tape with the Kenyan finishing second.
Kipyegon clocked 14:32.31 behind Hassan, who timed 14:32.29, and with eight runners qualifying for the final, Kenya’s Lilian Kasait also sealed her place after finishing fifth despite stumbling just a few metres to the finish line.

Chebet was largely untroubled as she cruised to victory in a time of 14:57.70 ahead of Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegaye, who was second after timing 14:57.72, while Chelimo managed 15:00.10 in what was a slow heat.

All eyes will now be on Kipyegon once more to see if she can further write her name in history by claiming gold in a race that is not her specialty.
She will, however, face still competition from Hassan who will be keen to make amends after missing out on a medal in the 10,000m and winning bronze in 1,500m.
