The Jamaican youngster believes he can run faster times if he works on certain aspects of his race and get closer to Usain Bolt's world record in the men's 100m.

Olympic 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson has opened up about the possibility of recording faster times in coming seasons.

Thompson’s personal best time stands at 9.77 seconds and running faster times would threaten Usain Bolt’s world record time of 9.58 seconds set during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Thompson has been impressive this season but injuries have prevented him from ending his season on a high.

His last 100m race was at the Paris Olympic Games where he finished second behind Noah Lyles in the final. He also raced the men’s 4x100m relay where Team Jamaica finished fourth and missed a slot in the final.

However, the youngster believes he can run faster times only if he works on his execution. Amid the injury woes, Thompson told Relevo that he has to put in extra effort and work smart with the main focus on getting closer to the world record.

"I can get better results, and go faster, but for that, I have to do the whole execution well. If I don't execute well, I won't get results. If I don't practice it, if I don't put it all together, I can't think about things like faster times. All of that is a consequence of execution. If I execute well, the times, the medals and the records will come," Thompson shared.

He added that growing up, he used to look up to Bolt, the fastest man alive, and he still looks up to the legend. After his 100m exploits at the Paris Olympic Games, he received dozens of congratulatory messages from Bolt and other stars.

“He set the standard for the rest of us to look up to. I haven't been able to respond to them all, but the affection, love and support that has been shown to me is enormous. And I think I would have felt the same even if I hadn't won the medal," he added.
