Kenyan sprinters have their work cut out at the upcoming Africa Athletics Championships after Botswana sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo signed up for three races.
Botswana sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo will make his comeback on track during the Africa Senior Athletics Championships that begin in Doula, Cameroon on Friday.
Tebogo has been away on compassionate leave following the death of his mother Seratiwa in May but is now ready to conquer the continent.
‘School-boy, as he is popularly known, was among 32 athletes named by the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) for the African Championships and will feature in three races, the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.

Letsile Tebogo makes internet comeback on his birthday with heartfelt message to his late mum
Youngster Letsile Tebogo has broken his silence following his mother's demise as he celebrated his birthday, sharing a heartfelt message honouring her.
Tebogo is the defending 200m champion and will seek to retain his title while the 100m will also be in his sights especially in the absence of Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala.
The world 100m silver and 200m bronze medallist will enter the race as favourite and Kenyans Meshack Babu and Mark Otieno have their work cut out in 100m as well as Mike Mokamba and Samuel Chege in the 200m.
“Letsile is the defending champion in the 200m, our men’s 4x400m relay and mixed, generally we expect a good performance from our team,” said BAA vice president, Oaboana Theetso after unveiling Team Botswana.

Why Mark Otieno is not worried by prospect of missing Paris Olympics
Sprinter Mark Otieno is keeping hope alive that he will seal Olympics qualification but will not be overly disappointed if he misses out.
Botswana, just like Kenya are hoping to use the event to enable athletes who are yet to hit the Olympics qualifying time to do so before the June 30 deadline.
“Our intention as the BAA is to increase the number of athletes who will compete at the Olympics. We are of the view that the Africa Senior Championship is the right platform for us,” added Theetso.
Tebogo’s last race was the 100m at the Los Angles Grand Prix on May 18 when he clocked 10.13 for second place, having won the ASA Grand Prix in Johannesburg in April (19.94) following second place at the Kip Keino Classic (19.71), both in 200m.

The 100m race appears not to have any favorites at the upcoming Paris Olympic games, and Bolt has given his prediction as to who will win the Olympics.
The African Championships is also an opportunity for Babu and Otieno to hit the Olympics qualifying standard of 10 seconds after clocking 10.20 and 10.12 respectively at the Athletics Kenya Olympics trials last weekend.
Both athletes will join Team Kenya to the Paris 2024 Olympics if they run 10 seconds or faster in Doula.
