World and Olympic champion Noah Lyles remains positive on breaking Usain Bolt's World Record and derives his motivation from sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles believes the possibility of breaking Usain Bolt's 200m World Record (WR) is achievable and has the motivation from Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce's longevity.

Lyles who claimed the Olympic 100m gold in Paris in a personal best time of 9.79s, couldn’t quite complete the sprint double after finishing third in the 200m in 19.70s. It later emerged he had tested positive for Covid before his 200m race which affected his performance.

The US sprinter has been rated highly and entertained conversations on breaking Bolt's 200m WR of 19.19s set in 2009, one which he believes is possible considering he has the third-fastest time in history of 19.31s.

“I’m knocking on the door of the 200m. If it was that easy, I’d have done it five years ago," said Lyles on Beyond the Records Podcast with Mr Beast as a guest appearance.

“I’m the fastest American to ever live, so I have the American record, like Rai [Benjamin, who joined him on the podcast] in the 400m hurdles, which is pretty cool. We’re just constantly getting closer to breaking world records.”

The 27-year-old also stated that deriving motivation from Jamaican sprint queen Fraser-Fryce's longevity spurs him on he still has time.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is arguably the greatest female sprinter in history

“They used to say it was around 30 [when a sprinter reaches their peak] but with technology now, it’s more like 35," Lyles added.

"But then you’ve got people like Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce [who is 38 and still at the top of the sport]. I’ve just reached what they consider peak fitness. So 26 through 31/32 is what they consider to be peak.”

Lyles will be gunning to strengthen his legacy at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo next summer by defending his sprint 100m and 200m titles, which if successful will make him the first male sprinter since Bolt to achieve such feat.
