Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs has posted a cryptic post aimed at his haters and track rivals as he gears up for his 2024 season opener in Rome.

Defending Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs has shared a cryptic message aimed at his haters on his X (Twitter) handle.

Jacobs was after shutting down his haters who think it has taken him so long to open the season unlike his opponents Noah Lyles, Ferdinand Omanyala, and Fred Kerley who have already opened their seasons.

The Italian is yet to open his 2024 season since the Memorial Borisa Hanžekovića in Zagreb, Croatia where he finished third.

In the cryptic post on X, Jacobs said: “It's April and I haven't competed yet... surely the season is already over! I am sorry.”

The Italian has been out for long due to an injury setback and returned to competitive athletics last year where he even competed at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary but could not make it to the final of the event.

Eyebrows were raised when he missed the indoor tour but he quashed the speculations, posting a video of himself training. He has now been confirmed for the 100m at the Rome Sprint Festival at the Stadio dei Marmi - the warm-up track for the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships on Sunday, May 18.

"I can’t wait to be there; running at home will be a fantastic experience. I’m looking for redemption after two difficult seasons," Jacobs told Sky Sports Italia.

“This year I will be happy if I manage to defend both my 100m titles at the European Athletics Championships and the Olympics."

"On a mental level, I am fine, I am very relaxed and very focused on training and in September, I will be happy if I will confirm my two titles, the Olympic and the European one. I am happy to make my debut in Italy in Rome, a city I love and where I will move soon.”
