Earlier in the year, he had been involved in an online altercation with the reigning World champion Fred Kerley and they had planned for a face-off which is yet to happen. It was intended to happen at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco but Jacobs could not compete, citing injuries.
He also withdrew from competing against Kerley on home ground and fans are still waiting for the moment of truth which might be happening sooner than fans think, with the World Championships just 17 days away.
In a lengthy post on his Twitter page, the Italian reminisced on his historic win at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics where he cut the tape in 9.80 ahead of Kerley.
He said: “Two years after my victory in the 100m at the Olympics, I am reliving an unparalleled emotion, a triumph that has rewritten my history. Today, the echo of that success resonates within me."
"He asks me to get back on track, to feel the energy of the finish line, the passion of the competition. I can't wait to answer that call, to rekindle the fire of the challenge.”
However, his comeback on the track is faced with a lot of uncertainty since he does not know how he will perform and what people will say.
