He also revealed his gratitude for becoming a parent and noted it is fueling him to chase more glory as he seeks to make the Olympic team.

“To be a dad, to be honest is an honour and a pleasure and it’s a blessing as well. He has my personality but looks like the mum,” Otieno said.

Meanwhile, Otieno is still keen on qualifying for the Olympic Games, something that will come as a blessing to his young family. For the 10,000m, combined events, race walks, and relays, the qualification and ranking period will be between December 31, 2022, and June 30.

“My ultimate target is of course to qualify for the Olympics and now, I want to focus on the World Relays then the rest will fall in place," Otieno said.

“We want to qualify for the Olympics with the 4x100m relay which will be history and I believe we can do it because we have a very strong team."

He has posted promising times since the season started and his recent time was 10.36 during the World Athletics Relays National trials at the Nyayo National Stadium over the weekend.
