Mary Moraa is set up for millions of prize money after joining Faith Kipyegon, Gabby Thomas, Masai Russell and Alexis Holmes in signing up for Serena William's husband's lucrative women-only event.

Reigning world 800m champion Mary Moraa is the latest addition to join Athlos, a women’s only track event founded by Serena William’s husband Alex Ohanian.

Moraa joins triple Olympic champion, Gabby Thomas, three-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon, Olympic 400m champion Marileidy Paulino, Jamaica’s 800m runner Natoya Goule-Toppin, Olympic 100m hurdles champion Masai Russell and Alexis Holmes among other top female athletes.

She will be in action at the Athlos NYC event on September 26 to be staged at the Icahn Stadium in New York City. The event boasts the largest prize purse ever for a track event and female athletes will reap millions from their hard work.

The prize money offered includes $60,000 (Ksh7.7 million) for the winners with the second place attracting $25,000 (Ksh3.2 million). The third place will offer $10,000 (Ksh1.3 million) while the fourth place promises $8,000 (Ksh1 million). The women who finish fifth place will walk away with $5,000 (Ksh645,598) and sixth-place finishers will walk away with $2,500 (Ksh322,500).

The 24-year-old has been in great shape this season, starting her international campaign with a 400m win at the African Games.

Moraa also claimed top honours in the women’s 800m at the Kip Keino Classic before impressing at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha. She finished second in the 400m at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix before finishing second in the women’s 800m at the Prefontaine Classic.

The reigning Commonwealth Games 800m champion finished second in the women’s 800m at the Kenyan Olympic trials and continued to a third-place finish in the 800m at the Paris Olympic Games.

After her somewhat Olympic heartbreak, she bounced back to claim the win at the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne before competing in the 1000m in Silesia where she finished third. She stamped authority in the women’s 600m at the ISTAF 2024 in Berlin, shattering Caster Semenya’s world best.

Joining Athlos is a huge boost for her in terms of monetary value and connecting with other top women while showcasing her talent.
