Reigning World 800m champion Mary Moraa and javelin star Julius Yego are among the thousands of people in awe of Winny Bii after she made history at the African Games.

Winny Bii warmed the hearts of fans and athletics bigwigs after becoming the second Kenyan woman to claim a medal in the triple jump at the African Games in a field event.

Eunice Basweti became the first woman to finish on the podium during the 1995 African Games that were held in Harare, Zimbabwe. Basweti bagged a bronze medal after leaping 12.86.

Bii has now become the talk of the town after her dominant exploits at the ongoing 13th edition of the event, where she managed to leap 13.64 for a second-place finish behind Ruth Osoro of Nigeria. With her silver medal, she becomes the first Kenyan woman to win that medal in the triple jump.

In her comment, Moraa said: “Well done gal, the future looks bright. However, it's the second Kenya's podium finish after Eunice Basweti claimed bronze at the 1995 Games in Harare. It was the first women’s triple jump featured at the Games.”

The 2015 world javelin champion Julius Yego was also in awe of the youngster and he could not keep his cool as he shared photos with her after she had just won a silver medal.
