Mary Moraa has penned a heartfelt message, praising Beatrice Chebet following her triumph at the Prefontaine Classic, where she set a world record in her second 10,000m race.

As congratulatory messages poured in for newly-crowned world record holder Beatrice Chebet, world 800m champion Mary Moraa could also not be left behind as she penned a lengthy message for Chebet.

Chebet smashed the 10,000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic, becoming the first woman to dip under the 29-minute barrier, clocking 28:54.14 to finish first ahead of Gudaf Tsegay and Lilian Kasait who finished second and third respectively.

Moraa, the Commonwealth Games champion was clearly in awe of Chebet’s prowess in running, and took to her Facebook page to praise the reigning world 5000m bronze medallist.

Moraa noted that she was one of the thousands of Kenyans who never expected Chebet to shatter the world record since it was just but her second 10,000m race since 2020, when she made her debut in an Athletics Kenya weekend meet.

Moraa noted that Chebet is the queen of pulling surprises and she was just getting started and she will continue making history for Kenya. She also encouraged Chebet to continue shining at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“Allow me to celebrate this super lady on this lovely Sunday morning. This girl is special in many ways. Did anyone foresee a Kenyan setting a world record let alone winning this race? Trust Beatrice Chebet when it comes to delivery. She goes beyond winning...making history.

“First woman to run under 29 minutes on track...this is quite inspiring. It can never get any better Betty...now go bring that Olympic title home. Go rewrite more history books in Paris,” Moraa said.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old has been in the form of her life this season and has been unbeaten in all her international races. She successfully defended her title at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, and also won the 5000m at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar.
