ATHLETICS Looming showdown as big names confirm participation at third Athletics Kenya meet
The third Athletics Kenya meet will promise thrilling experiences with some of the top athletes including Ferdinand Omanyala, Mary Moraa, and Mark Otieno set to descend in the Nyayo National Stadium.
In a post on her Facebook page, Moraa said: “Glad to announce that I will start my track season at the Third Athletics Kenya Track and Field Meeting starting tomorrow at the Nyayo National Stadium. I will be running 400m where I hope to run sub 50 seconds. See you then.”
The Commonwealth Games champion has been training effectively under the tutelage of coach Alex Sang and she will be ready to impress once she sets foot on the track.
Moraa enjoyed an amazing 2023 season that saw her become the third Kenyan woman to win a gold medal in the 800m at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Kisii Express as she is fondly known in athletics circles was beaten only once in the two-lap race, where she faded to finish a distant fourth at the Diamond League Meeting final held at Hayward Field in Eugene, the USA.
She will be seeking to also dominate this season, with her focus fully fixed on making the cut to the Olympic Games in Paris, France.
She has also spoken about attacking the 800m world record and this might just be the year that the Kenyan talent will shatter it.
