Coach Alex Sang has insisted that Mary Moraa's opponents, Keely Hodgkinson and Athing Mu are not his priority at the moment as he maintains focus on the world record.

Alex Sang, Mary Moraa’s coach has opened up about the plans he has for the reigning World 800m champion.

Coach Sang acknowledges the presence of tough competition from the likes of Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson and American Athing Mu but he is not shaken by such. He explained that this season is all about fast times hence nothing to worry about when it comes to the track rivalry.

“Of course, there is tough competition that awaits us from the runners from the USA and Great Britain but that is not in our program this season.

“Our main focus is to ensure that she improves her Personal Best time and when she does that, we shall predict what she can get at the Olympic Games,” Sang said.

Hodgkinson and Mu have been known to give Moraa a nightmare when it comes to the 800m but it seems like this season, things will be different.

Moraa managed to shut the duo out last season during the World Championships but they revenged after dethroning her at the Diamond League Meeting final with Mu and Hodgkinson finishing first and second.

As they eye the upcoming Olympic Games, Moraa will be hoping to stun them one more time and she has just started training towards the same.

Sang also disclosed that many upcoming 800m runners in his training camp will prove to be great soon. The tactician singled out, Sarah Moraa, Moraa’s younger sister, and Aaron Kemei among other athletes.

“Yes, we have Sarah Moraa and Aaron Kemei who have started with the 400m, and for now, they are the ones who look most promising,” he said.
