After receiving a massive financial boost of more than Ksh 4 billion, Michael Johnson's unnamed track league has also landed a great addition to the team with a decorated American athlete joining him.

Weeks after receiving a major financial boost of more than Ksh 4 billion, American legend Michael Johnson’s track league has yet again made a huge stride as he prepares for a great launch in 2025.

Retired American middle-distance runner Kyle Merber announced on Wednesday, May 1, that he will be partnering with the four-time Olympic champion and the track and field world is clearly over the moon.

The 33-year-old shared on his X (Twitter) handle: “I am excited to share that I will be the Director of Athletes and Racing working alongside @MJGold to help revolutionize track and bring it into the mainstream of sports.”

In an article he wrote, he also explained that more details about the track league will be coming in June and he expressed his excitement to be able to share them with his fans.

“But know that even if my role has shifted, the goal has not changed: I want it to be fun as hell to be a fan, and I want more people to get in on the action,” he added.

One of the people who was excited about the news was Letsrun.com’s writer who commented on Merber’s post saying: “Kyle is smart, passionate, and a great hire for Michael Johnson's (still unnamed) track league. Exciting to see his ideas for the sport moving forward.”

Rori Drunk also added another comment saying: “Congrats, I know innovative things coming.” Glenn Chitwood also commented on the post saying: “Excited to see where this goes. I hope you guys can bring T&F to a broader audience.

“The sport needs a shot in the arm. Too expensive for most average joes to attend the races they seem stuck in having in the same expensive locales year after year. Good luck!”

Another X user commented saying: “Congratulations. You are the type of person who should be in this type of position.

“Someone organized, who has actually run sub 3:35, instead of the laggard officials who have been eroding the value of the sport and the athletes. Said it before, but no reason this can’t be bigger than UFC.”
