Latest 1500m star on the block Brian Komen has shared how he plans to dethrone Jakob Ingebrigtsen and other 1500m pros as he eyes the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Microbiology graduate Brian Komen has outlined how he plans to silence Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Josh Kerr and other 1500m bigwigs as he seeks to make an impact at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The former Egerton University student has made his breakthrough season, and he credits his running to nothing but talent and training hard. Komen started his season with a win at the African Games national trials before dominating the African Games in Accra, Ghana where he took gold.

The 25-year-old then proceeded to the Kip Keino Classic where he also reigned supreme before impressing in his first ever Diamond League Meeting in Doha, where he outsmarted Timothy Cheruiyot to claim the top honours.

However, Kenya has been dwindling when it comes to the specialty and all hopes will now be resting on the new kid on the block who has proven to be consistent this season. Komen has also been watching his competitors and he knows he can silence them.

“Today might be his year but we might clash with him (Ingebrigtsen) in the coming days. My teammates are also strong, the likes of Timothy and Reynold, they are very strong.

“I’ve observed how he runs and I know he has the speed endurance and the lapping but his last 50m might be a challenge. I have realised he lacks the last kick,” Komen said.

During the previous 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Cheruiyot bagged Kenya a silver medal, finishing second behind Ingebrigtsen as Kerr sealed the podium.

At the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Kerr beat Ingebrigtsen at the finish line, to run away with the top honours as another Norwegian Narve Nordas finished third in the race.

This year, there is a lot of unpredictability in the field, since Cheruiyot is just coming back from an injury setback and looks very strong as a title contender. The Norwegians are also not playing and are in the mix for title honours with Jake Wightman, the former 1500m world champion also returning from an injury setback.
