The four-time Olympic champion announced earlier this year that he plans to retire after the 2023 season, making this year’s London Marathon an emotional and significant event for the 40-year-old athlete.

British long-distance runner Mo Farah is set to participate in the Port-Gentil 10km race in Gabon, just two weeks before his expected final London Marathon appearance.

The four-time Olympic champion announced earlier this year that he plans to retire after the 2023 season, making this year’s London Marathon an emotional and significant event for the 40-year-old athlete.

Last year, Farah was unable to participate in the London Marathon due to a hip injury, but he is looking forward to his first full marathon since 2019.

In September of last year, he won the Big Half in London in a time of 1:01:49.

Farah is currently training in Ethiopia to prepare for the London Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on April 23.

In a short video, Farah expressed that he has been "preparing well" in Ethiopia and is "really excited" to test his fitness over 10km on April 8 in Gabon, 15 days before he takes to the streets of his home city.

Although he is uncertain whether the marathon will be his last competitive race, he expressed his excitement at testing his fitness during the Port-Gentil 10km on April 8, which takes place 15 days before the London Marathon.

Farah’s participation in the Port-Gentil 10km will be a significant step toward his potential final London Marathon appearance.

Regarding his upcoming races, Farah stated, “It has been an amazing career and, for me, to take part in London Marathon is a big deal. I have always said it would be nice to win it one day, but it takes a lot.”

Although Farah's personal best over 10km on the road is 27:44, from 2010, he was beaten by club runner Ellis Cross in his last 10km outing at the Vitality London last year, clocking in at 28:46. He has only raced seven times since October 2019.

Farah finished in third place in the 2018 London Marathon, his highest finish in the race.

However, this year’s marathon will feature four of the five fastest runners in history, making it a tough field to compete against.
