Baylor's Ezekiel Nathaniel was in outstanding form at the BIG 12 Indoor Championships, racing to his school's and Nigeria's history books.
It was a night to remember for Nigeria's Ezekiel Nathaniel as he stormed to the Nigerian history books of 400m records and was outstanding for Baylor University at the BIG 12 Indoor Championships in Lubbock.
Nathaniel ran a sub-46s time for the second time in two days, storming to a new Personal Best (PB) of 45.77s to finish third at the championship, an event his school Baylor University dominated with his teammates taking the top two positions.
Before this, the Baylor University sophomore student had a day earlier become the fifth Nigerian quarter-miler in indoor history to run under 46s after clocking 45.90s to finish second in the preliminary heat.
This time propelled him to joint third on the Nigerian indoor all-time list alongside veteran Innocent Egbunike.
So his new lifetime best of 45.77s now makes him stand alone as the third fastest behind late Sunday Bada's African Record (AR) of 45.51s and Kunle Fasasi's 45.57s.
Nathaniel also helped his school's 4x400m relay squad run a blistering 3:02.89 for a new School Record(SR) and win the BIG title.
Interestingly, his main event is the 400m Hurdles, where he owns the National Record (NR) of 48.42s, which he ran last year, breaking Henry Amike's long-standing NR of 48.50s that stood since 1987.
Meanwhile, he will target lowering his new 400m PB at the NCAA Indoor Championships next month.
