The AFN is set to announce a new date for the National 10km Cross Country Championships.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has postponed the maiden edition of the National 10km Cross Country Championships, slated to hold in Jalingo on January 28, 2003.

In a letter released and signed by its Secretary General, Rita Moshindi, it says the postponement became necessary following complaints by the athletes that the scheduled date is too close to the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which holds on Saturday February 4, 2023.

Middle and Long distance runners will now focus on the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

"This postponement is as a result of pleas made by the confirmed athletes on the grounds that it is close to the Lagos City Marathon, scheduled for February 4, 2023. The new date of the National 10km Cross Country Championships will be communicated in due course."

Also, the letter stated it is only the Cross Country Championships that has been rescheduled and not it's annual general congress, which included to take place along with the championships in Jalingo.

"The AFN Annual General Congress which was scheduled to take place along with the National Cross Country on Jauary 28, 2023 in Jalingo, Taraba State, will still hold."

It is expected the congress will hold on the said date, but the venue is now in Abuja. Delegates are to arrive a day earlier.
