Neeraj Chopra: India's golden boy and Noah Lyles announced among finalists for World Athletics Awards

India's javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and sprints champion Noah Lyles made five final list for the World Athletics Men's Athlete of the Year Award.

India's golden Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and American speedster Noah Lyles are still in the running for the Men's Athlete of the Year Award after World Athletics announced the five finalists.

Chopra and Lyles in the company of Sweden's World Record (WR) holder Mondo Duplantis, Kenya's marathon WR holder Kelvin Kiptum, and USA's WR holder Ryan Crouser, will be battling it out for the prestigious annual award as announced by World Athletics.

These five athletes represent five countries from four area associations and have achieved sensational performances across a range of athletics disciplines in 2023, winning titles and breaking world records at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, one-day meeting circuits, Label road races, and other global events.

Noah Lyles, USA, 100m/200m

  • World 100m and 200m champion
  • World leader and undefeated in six finals at 200m

Chopra is the reigning Olympic and World champion in the men's Javelin throw. He is the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin and the first Asian to win gold in his event at the World Championships. Also, is the first track and field athlete to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics.

The winner will be announced on World Athletics platforms on December 11 as part of the 2023 World Athletics Awards.
