Another track sensation of Nigerian descent has won a global medal for another country. This time, Udeme Okon stormed to the men's 400m gold medal for South Africa at the World U20 Championships in Lima.

The 18-year-old became the 400m champion in great style, having an incredible comeback in the home straight as he blazed to the finish line in 45.69s.
He was miles ahead of Americans Jayden Davis, who settled for the silver medal in 46.08s, and Sidi Njie won bronze in 46.29s.
With his victory, Okon extended South Africa's reign in the event at the championship, with Lythe Pillay being the previous winner at the 2022 edition in Cali, Colombia.

Born in Saskatchewan to a Nigerian father and a South African mother, Okon was spotted by his coach in August 2023 and only started full-track training this season.
