American sprint sensation Noah Lyles has been left wondering if the ‘threes’ achieved in in his career this year have any hidden meaning

World 100m and 200m champion Noah Lyles has been left wondering if his hat-trick of achievements in 2003 have any hidden meaning.

Lyles has had an impressive 2023 season that has seen him win three gold medals at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, claiming the 100m, 200m as well as the 4x100m relay title with Team USA.

That feat in Budapest made him the third American to do a triple at the Worlds, following in the footsteps of the legendary Tyson Gay and Maurice Greene who also claimed gold medals in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in Osaka 2007 and Seville 1999 respectively.

It was also the third time Lyles was winning the 200m world title following victories in Doha 2019 and Eugene 2022 and he capped it off by equaling US sprint legend Michael Johnson with a third Jesse Owens US Athlete of the Year award on Thursday.

“Idky [I don’t know why] but there has been a lot of 3s in my life this year,” Lyles posted on X. “3rd time winning 200m World Championships, 3 Gold medals at Worlds, 3rd US Athlete of the Year, 3rd American to do the triple at WC [World Championships].”

“I feel like it means something but idk [I don’t know] what,” he added.

The comment left some of his fans also guessing while others suggested some of the ‘threes’ that he could do to add onto the illustrious list.

“Time to do a three-part series on sprinting basics/technique/programming on YouTube for all of your fans and athletes that look up to you,” suggested one of his fans.

“Fortunately, many others will connect the dots for you! It does mean excellence in four different,” was the response of another supporter.

Others told him to now aim higher. “Oh brother. These superstitions are not good. The 3 is the charm saying is an old wife's tale. I think 7 is the charm. How about 7 wins?” posed a supporter.

More good news could be on the way for Lyles as he is among five finalists for the World Athletics Athlete of the Year Award whose gala will be conducted on December 1.
