Multiple world champion Noah Lyles has revealed why the 200m gold he won in Budapest is not among his biggest achievements so far

Three-time 200m world champion Noah Lyles has revealed his biggest achievements in the 200m so far and his third gold medal over the distance is not one of them.

Lyles made it three world titles in 200m when he clocked 19.52 to win gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August but he values higher the 19.31 he timed to claim his second gold over the distance at the 2022 Worlds in Eugene, Oregon.

That time, plus the 19.65 clocked in Paris in 2019 to make him the fastest American in 200m alongside the 19.50 run in Lausanne to make him the fifth fastest 200m runner in the world, are what the American considers his biggest achievements so far.

“These are my previous 200m times, a lot of people think these are for this year. But it is for last year when I became the American record holder, I won my second world title in the 200m so, these are my kind of big memoirs,” Lyles told American outlet NBC at the MetLife Stadium when he attended an NFL match between the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs at the weekend.

“This one (19.65) got me recognised for being the fastest 200m guy, this (19.50) got me ranked the fifth fastest in the world and this one (19.31) made me the third fastest ever to live in the World Championships,” he added.

Lyles received a warm welcome from fans at MetLife Stadium as he joined fans to watch the match which Kansas won 23-20.

The 26-year-old, who also won 100m before anchoring Team USA to the 4x100m relay gold in Budapest, had the three times written on his jacket and also used the occasion to popularise his ‘Noah Lyles World Champion Hat’ that retails at $35.00 (Ksh5,187).
