Triple world champion Noah Lyles has explained why he badly wants to shatter Usain Bolt's 200m world record.
Three-time world 200m champion Noah Lyles has opened up about why he badly wants to go for Usain Bolt’s 200m world record this season.
The world record stands at 19.19 and was set by the Jamaican sprint legend at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Lyles has been vocal about shattering the record this season, hopefully at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 26-year-old added that a world record would spice up his already decorated CV and he would be able to exit the sport as one of the greatest athletes in the world. He added that winning an Olympic gold medal is also on his bucket list since he has already won multiple world titles.

“When everybody starts to get to the top, they start to realise that they need to do something in order to be considered great when they leave the sport,” Lyles said.
“Grabbing a world record is one of the two things that I still have left to do one being winning an Olympic gold medal and then breaking a world record. It’s on the list, if I aim to be the greatest, there is just something that I have to get or I want to get.”
Meanwhile, the triple world champion has enjoyed a stellar season, going unbeaten in the 200m. He kickstarted his 200m at the USATF New York City Grand where he won the race, clocking 19.77 to cross the finish line.
