Noah Lyles' new shocking revelation on his preferred event ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo has stirred new conversations online.

Following a dramatic end to his 2024 season at the Paris Olympic Games, Noah Lyles has made a shocking revelation about his preferred event to win a global title ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

The American speedster has been a dominant force in the men's sprint in the past few years, having a whooping six world titles in his name and a groundbreaking golden photo-finish in the 100m final at the Paris Games to become USA's first Olympic champion since 2004.

However, his 200m unbeaten run since 2021 ended in Paris when he settled for the bronze medal behind history-making winner Botswana's Letsile Tebogo and fellow American Kenny Bednarek. Shortly after the race, the USATF made the bombshell revelation that he had been suffering from Covid for three days.

Lyles aimed to become the first American man in four decades to strike gold in the 100m and 200m, hardware that would have stamped him as the best male sprinter since Usain Bolt. He also wanted to make up for his showing at the Covid-compromised Tokyo Olympics, where he walked away with bronze in the 200m.

Now, months after his heartbreaking end at the Paris Games, the 27-year-old has revealed his preferred event for another global title when asked to choose between becoming the world 100m champion or world 200m champion.

"100m champion. Nobody cares about the 200m," said Lyles in an interview with LetsRundotcom via their YouTube page.

"I learned that very quickly after breaking the American Record and losing to Mondo for athlete of the year. I was just like they don't care, they don't care about the 200m. I mean it's fun to watch but at the end of the day, track and field athletes they don't care about the 200, it's the 100," he added.

"That's why when Bolt was winding down, he stuck to the 100 because the 200 wasn't going to get him extra model, it's all about the 100. Everybody wants to know the fastest man in the world."

Lyles earned the bragging rights of the world's fastest man after his jaw-dropping performance at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, where he won the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m gold medals, making him a six-time world champion.

He backed up his performance with his Olympic 100m success and 200m bronze medal despite running sick. Lyles' claim above is a surprise considering the 200m is his trademark event, which he once called his 'wife', an affirmation that he can't be beaten in the event.

With the 2025 world championships in sight where he'll be gunning to defend his titles, it remains to be seen whether Lyles has bowed to the pressure of his new rivals - Tebogo and Bednarek, hence, doesn't want to lose twice or it's just one of his gimmicks of avoiding much expectations ahead of Tokyo.

Whatever the case is, Lyles is surely at the peak of his career and has proven he can combine both effectively, and the World Championships in Tokyo is already shaping up to be one of the best in history.
