The National Olympic Committee of Kenya president Paul Tergat believes Faith Kipyegon will be a force to reckon with even when she transitions to the full marathon.

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya president Paul Tergat has predicted that Faith Kipyegon’s career over the marathon is going to be as glittering as it was on the track.

Tergat observed that just as Hellen Obiri, Kipyegon will be a powerhouse in the 42km distance when she decides to make that move.

The legendary athlete singled out her performance over the 5000m and said that her transition has been powerful. Kipyegon was in the form of her life during the 2023 season where she broke three world records.

She began her campaign with the 1500m world before shattering the 5000m world record in less than a week. The double World champion then destroyed the mile world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco.

“I believe that Faith, just like many other athletes including Obiri, will be one of the best marathoners in the near future.

We saw it in the 5000m the way she broke the world record. I know it is easy for her to transition to the long distance.

The world will witness Faith coming from the 1500m and be the first one to compete and have very good times in the marathon,” Tergat told the Olympics.

Tergat added that thinking about a transition takes a huge toll on an athlete and Kipyegon would not be an exception. He, however, believes that she has already started thinking about it, and she

“Thinking alone in terms of mental preparation is huge because she is already thinking about a transition and maybe as time goes by, she will make that decision,” he said.
