Olympic Champion Marcell Jacobs signs with Puma

Olympic and European Champion, Marcell Jacobs has left Nike and joined PUMA family.

Double Olympic Champion Marcell Jacobs has joined the PUMA running family and is no longer with Nike.

The shoe giant company announced this on their Instagram page with the caption, "If you can dream it, you can do it. Welcome to the #PUMAfam, @crazylongjumper," it read.

Jacob's career achievements

He is an American-born Italian sprinter and former long jumper. A two-time Olympic Champion, reigning European 100m Champion and World 60m Champion, plus holds the European Record (ER) in the 60m and 100m final, while being a six-time Italian Champion.

Marcell Jacobs is the reigning European 100m Champion

Jacobs won the European 60m title at the 2021 European Indoor Championships held in Turin, Poland, setting a new National Record (NR) and world-leading time of 6.47s.

He later set the 100m Italian Record (IR) at a meet in Savona, Italy, with a time of 9.95s, becoming the second Italian to break the 10s barrier.

Tokyo Olympics

The 28-year-old went to the Tokyo Olympics as an underdog but ended up the 100m champion. In the qualifying heat, he lowered his IR to 9.94s, then smashed it to a new ER of 9.84s to finish third in the semis and qualify for the final, where he stunned the rest of the field and the world for a historic win clocking a new ER of 9.80s.

Due to his performance, he became the first Italian to get to an Olympic 100m final and win a Gold medal in the event. Also, the first European to win since Linford Christie won the event at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

Jacobs later won a second Gold medal in the 4x100m as part of the Italian relay team, along with Lorenzo Patta, Fausto Desalu, and Filippo Tortu. It was the first time Italy won this event. Also, the first time the country had earned a medal in the event in 73 years.

World Indoor Championships

At the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade, he equalled the world-leading time of 6.45s in the semis, held by pre-championship favorite and World Record holder Christian Coleman and Bahamian sprinter Terrence Jones, setting a new NR.

Jacobs won the 60m World indoor title in Belgrade

He won the final ahead of Coleman setting a new ER of 6.41s, thereby becoming the fourth fastest man in history over the distance.

Becoming European Champion

Having had to withdraw before the semifinals of the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, due to a thigh injury, at the European Championships in Munich, Jacobs won the 100m final in a time of 9.95s, beating reigning champion and Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes into the second position with 9.99s.
