Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has started off his campaign on a good start at the ongoing National Championships at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Omanyala, 27, jogged to the finish line and clocked 10.09, unofficial time. He opened a wide gap starting out from the blocks in an impressive way and showed class as he cut the tape.

Coming from a doping ban, Omanyala defied all odds and has steadily climbed through the ranks to become one of Kenya’s national treasures.
During a post-race interview, the Commonwealth Games champion revealed that he was expecting a slower time and he has promised a thrilling show in the final. The competition was his first competitive race after his Diamond League tour which saw him finish third in Rabat and second in Florence and Paris.
“The race was good…and my body feels good. I wasn’t expecting a fast race and I can say I’m impressed.
The most important thing for me was to win the heats. I didn’t set any targets this weekend but I can promise a sub-10 performance,” he said.
He added that he just wants to win the gold for Kenya Police in the final which is scheduled for Sunday, June 24.
“I want to win a gold for Kenya Police, that’s my main goal. However, if I record fast times, I’ll be glad,” he said.
