He is set to compete in the semifinal today afternoon before proceeding to the final tonight.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala started off his campaign at the World Athletics Championships on a high after finishing second in his Heat to qualify for a slot in the semifinals of the men’s 100m.

He will take on a tough field today afternoon in the bid to finally make it to the final tonight and hopefully finish in the podium bracket.

The Commonwealth Games champion disclosed that other than making history to finish in the podium bracket, he believes it will be a huge motivation to all the African kids.

“It will be a high motivation for all the Kenyan and African kids and it will be a legacy written down…that’s what I want to achieve and also the ancestors are watching,” he said.

In the Heats, Omanyala finished second behind World 200m champion Noah Lyles and as he heads to the semifinal, he has lofty ambitions set.

“The time is coming and we are going to see that dream come to a reality…I want to focus on myself this time.

I’m thinking about the races and ensuring I get the cues right. I also want to have a good start…I’m looking forward to executing a good race,” he said.

He also spoke about his rivalry with Lyles on the track saying that it makes track and field sweeter. He added that, however, they are friends outside of the track.
