The Commonwealth Games champion cruised to the finish line in 9.96 ahead of Meshack Babu of KDF who clocked 10.50.
Omanyala, who was also in action, noticed the numbers and was happy with the times most of the athletes posted.
Speaking after successfully defending his national title, Omanyala said: “I’m happy and impressed with the level of competition because the athletes have posted very good times. That’s the growth that I want for the sprints…I’m looking forward to seeing people record sub-10 performances…that will be my joy for this country,” he said.
He added that so far, things are looking up and he is glad to have been the trailblazer and show the whole world that even Kenya can produce a great sprinter.
Omanyala added that most people were afraid of taking the leap of faith and venturing into the sprints but he is happy that the poor mindset is slowly going away.
“So far so good, people are coming up. The first thing was to break the mind ceiling that most people had. Most of them had that mentality that they can’t compete in the 100m.
