Omanyala attested that his brother has a bright future in the field.
Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala has advised his brother Isaac Omurwa to maintain discipline and be himself at all times if he aims to sustain his great exploits on the field.
Omanyala added that with the brother now gaining fame, he should guard against getting carried away considering it can be a bit overwhelming.
“He should stay disciplined and be himself. Right now, he has started getting famous and he should watch out not to drown there. He should also make sure he listens to me,” Omanyala said.
Omurwa started his career on a high note when he obliterated a strong field during the national trials for the East Africa junior Athletics championships to win the 100m and qualify for the event. He extended the hot streak to the championship where he won the 100m in 10.72.
Speaking to Sports Eye, Omanyala attested that his brother has a bright future in the field and his main focus is ensuring that he runs fast times.
The Commonwealth Games champion noted that his brother is still young and has so many things to correct going forward. “He needs to work on his time and make sure he gets better after every race,” Omanyala said.
Omanyala added that his brother needs to invest his time in training as there is no other option to performing better. He added that when it comes to training sessions, the coach is the one who runs the show.
He also expressed his excitement towards having to mentor his brother and referred to him as someone who has the urge to push and the morale to perform better.
“When it comes to training, you never have any other option…it’s either you do it or you do it. I do not meddle into the training routine that the coach has put in place for him. He has to complete his training.
I am happy that I have set the pace and I will have someone to guide. He sees me as a big brother and mentor,” Omanyala said.
Meanwhile, Omanyala’s fiancée Laventa Amutavi also expressed her confidence in Omurwa. She noted that his strong mentality is what has pushed him to be in that position.
“He is going to be a champion. He is young and he should be keen not to have the pride because it will cost him a lot. He is at the right place and he should pursue his dream,” Amutavi said.
