Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon commenced the 2023 season with two goals in mind, to break the 1500m world record and successfully defend her World Championships title in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27.
Deservedly, she broke the 1500m world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy and she has one more target to achieve. Kipyegon ran a brilliant race to clock a stunning 3:49.11.

The marathon team had already been selected earlier and it includes Titus Kipruto and Rosemary Wanjiru among others.
She then headed to the Diamond League Meeting in Paris, France where she was competing in the 5000m and also broke the world record, attesting that shuttering the record came as a surprise to her since it was not among her targets.
Her focus is now on winning her third successive world title and she is burning the midnight oil to ensure she achieves the goal.
“I’m looking forward to defending my title in Budapest…that is my main target this season. I know that I have had a very busy season so far, breaking two world records, and now I have to focus on Budapest. World record was the first thing I achieved and now I’m going for my second target,” Kipyegon said.
The 29-year-old has been selected for Team Kenya and she will be hoping to double in the 5000m and 1500m and bring glory back home in both events.
