Chioma Onyekwere and Udodi Onwuzurike punching their tickets to the World Championships in Budapest, topped the list of performers last week in what can be termed a very successful weekend.
Consequently, most Nigerian athletes in action at various meets either set new records in their events or smashed their lifetime bests to cap off the best moments from last week.
Onyekwere breaks 16-year old African Record
Commonwealth champion Chioma Onyekwere swung her Discus to a massive new Personal Best (PB) of 64.96m for victory in the women's Discus event at the Oklahoma Throws series on Saturday.

African Record! Chioma Onyekwere cements her name in African athletics history
Commonwealth champion Chioma Onyekwere has attained another career feat, swinging her Discus to a new African Record in Oklahoma.
Her mark not only shattered her National Record of 63.30m set in 2021 but also broke the previous African Record of 64.87m recorded by South Africa's Elizna Naude in 2007. It also qualified her for the World Championships in Budapest, surpassing the 64.20m qualifying standard.
Onwuzurike surpasses 200m qualifying standard
Udodi Onwuzurike became the first Nigerian male athlete to automatically secure a World Championships ticket to Budapest in the 200m event.

NCAA Onwuzurike secures ticket to World Championships in Budapest
Udodi Onwuzurike has joined a growing list of Nigerian athletes to have qualified for the World Championships in Budapest.
The 20-year-old clocked a time of 20.14s (1.8) to win the 200m event at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday. By doing this, he became the first Nigerian male athlete to punch his ticket to Budapest after surpassing the automatic qualifying standard of 20.16s.
Akpan breaks 20-year-old Auburn University Record
Abasiono Akpan obliterated Auburn University's 400m Hurdles freshman record that stood for 20 years, posting a time of 56.93s at the Tom Jones Invitational on Friday.
Her time smashed the previous record of 57.81s held by Josanne Lucas in 2003.
Amusan clocks fastest 100mH season opener and 100m PB
World champion Tobi Amusan clocked her fastest season opener in the 100m Hurdles, blazing to a time of 12.59s to finish second behind former world champion Nia Ali with 12.53s. Amusan then ran an impressive PB of 11.10s to finish third in her 100m heat.

Tobi Amusan and Rosemary Chukwuma smashed their lifetime bests at Tom Jones Invitational in Florida.
Chukwuma storms to windy 10.85s
Rosemary Chukwuma ran the fastest time of her career in all conditions, storming to a brilliant 10.85s for a second-place finish behind NCAA's current best sprinter Julien Alfred with 10.72s.
The Texas Tech University standout athlete is the closest to threatening Alfred in a race this season.
Brume and Uko smash 200m PBs
Godson Brume ran under the 21s mark for the first time in his career, shaving off almost three-tenths from his previous PB of 21.23s with a new 20.92s, finishing clear ahead of Nolan Macklin with 21.01s at the Tom Jones Invitational on Friday.
Meanwhile, Imaobong Uko recorded a PB of 23.10s (0.7) to finish third in her heat of the women's 200m (college) at the same meet. It's her second PB this season in two 200m races, which is good progress.

NCAA Brume and Uko smash 200m PBs at Tom Jones Invitational
The duo of Godson Brume and Imaobong Uko put up impressive performances at the Tom Jones Invitational, plus more results from Nigerian athletes.
Other brilliant results
Chidi Okezie clocked a big PB of 20.79s in the 200m and won the men's 400m in 46.40s at the NSU Invitational in Norfolk.
Also, at the same meet, Dubem Amene ran a PB of 46.20s as well as Raphael Egbuchilem with 46.57s.
Seye Ogunlewe stormed to a wind-aided 9.97s (5.9) to finish second in the men's 100m at the East Texas Invitational, while Ese Awusa raced to a new PB of 11.67s (1.1) in the women's 100m and 13.40s in the 100mH at the Black Open in New Mexico.
Ashley Anumba dominated the women's Discus throw at the Virgina Grand Prix, throwing 58.00m to secure the win.
Then at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Alaba Akintola won the 100m in a Season's Best (SB) of 10.21s (0.7), while Prosper Ekporere also ran an SB of 13.83 (1.3) to finish third in the 110m Hurdles.
