World Athletics President Sebastian Coe has claimed that athletics have evolved from the era of Usain Bolt.

Bolt was an athletic legend, dominating the sprints throughout his illustrious career to earn eight Olympic and nine world gold medals.

The sprinter became a legend in track and field events, breaking and setting a record as the fastest man alive.

Following Bolt’s retirement from athletics, the governing body's president is pleased that attention is no longer on Bolt.

Sebastian speaks on turnaround

Sebastian has praised the rise of a new set of Olympians in Paris who have partially filled the vacuum left by the late Jamaican great Usain Bolt.

Since Bolt's retirement following the 2017 world championship in London, there has been constant discussion regarding potential successors for him as the sport's top pin-up.

According to JamaicaObserver, the World Athletics President told reporters, “We are no longer a sport about one person. That one person was Herculean, that one person transformed the popularity of our sport for a very clear period of time, and he consistently did that.

“You don’t replace Muhammad Ali, you don’t replace Usain Bolt. But I did say, ‘Mark my words, other athletes will come through.”

“I cannot remember a generation of more talented athletes. The way they’ve come through has been extraordinary.

“We’ve now got a greater bandwidth of talent across a broader range of disciplines than we’ve ever had in the sport.”
